Youth & Concert Band

Hathern Youth & Concert Band is a non-contesting brass band comprising players who have graduated from the training band, players who have retired from our contest band, and players who simply want to make good quality music in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30pm at the bandroom on Pasture Lane, Hathern.

Musical Director: Chris Groom

Chris Groom is a Kneller Hall trained bandsman who served six years as a horn player in H M Scots Guards. On leaving the army he moved to Markham Main Colliery Band and then on to Brodsworth Colliery. After the pit closed in 1985 Chris moved to the famous GUS Band on Solo Horn, a position he held for five years. He has also been brass tutor at Kimbolton School in Cambridgeshire and a visiting Music Teacher at the Loughborough Endowed Schools and Loughborough University.

For the past 25 years Chris has been the Musical Director of the Harborough Band. Last but certainly not least, Chris is the son of the legendary Trevor Groom, who is still one of the finest euphonium players around.
